My front shoulder…
Just prior to contact, my front shoulder will open up too early, and I pull off the ball, and bad stuff happens.
Some times it’s because I’m just a hair too close to the ball and to make room for my swing it’s pretty natural at that point to open up my front shoulder, but usually the problem for me is not spacing but is this thought that I’ll get extra power and spin by turning against the ball with my shoulders.
And you do get more power, spin, and leverage against the ball if your turn your racket shoulder against the ball, and not your front shoulder.
If you open up the front shoulder too early, there is no way to get your racket head around the outside corner of the ball to be able to impart a natural topspin.
