So, I’m thinking about writing a short daily post about whatever is running around my feeble brain about tennis at that moment.
Not sure where it’s going to go, what it’s going to look like, what the topic will be for the day, but I just want you to know what I’m thinking about on a daily basis.
I know some of the posts will be rants, some will be specific things about my own game, a tip, whatever, etc., etc., etc…
And as always, I’d love to read your comments / feedback by you leaving your thoughts at the bottom of a post. It’s really tough for me to respond to emails at this point because it has become overwhelming over the past year or so.
I’ll do my best to devote time every day to read your comments and respond. Hope you understand.
OK, here’s my tennis thought that’s running through my noggin at this moment…
I don’t practice enough – I don’t practice enough with the thought that it (practice) is a never ending artform.
Most of us practice our stroke mechanics, footwork patterns, strategy stroke combinations as a means to an end.
That end plays out as our goal to get better and we (me at times) try to force that end into happening just asap.
I know that for me I just don’t ever seem to get to that goal if I’m constantly measuring where I’m at on the path to getting to the goal.
But there are those rare times when I simply practice for the sake of practicing, not trying so hard to reach that final goal, and when I practice without that need to get to that goal, and here’s the ooey – gooey part, that goal shows up one day and it’s locked in…
I know we all seem to need goals to justify why we practice. But the more I practice the right stuff, and that’s what’s important, the right stuff combined without the need to get to the goal right now, then I trust that I’ll eventually get to that goal at a time that is natural, not forced.
I should go back to my bookcase and haul out a great little book titled “Mastery” by George Leonard.
If you haven’t read this book, here’s where to get it at amazon – click here.
OK, I gotta get back to practicing the biz of WebTennis!
