I got a chance to spend some on court time with my coach Michael Wayman the other day and ask him about his thoughts on the high forehand volley.
Clearly, this is one of the tough shots we experience, especially in doubles.

I’m curious to know his thoughts about body position for this shot. It appears he is about a 45 degree angle to the net at POC. Is this the preferred position for this shot because it is not quite an overhead (shoulder would be facing the net) or conventional volley (chest would be facing the net) but something in between?
Great videos! When you asked for suggestions on your new volley videos this is exactly the shot I asked you to include. Thanks, Dave
Hi Brent, I have a huge problem with the half volley, not so much when I’m up at net but more so nearer the base line. I just can’t seem to get the co-ordination right. At net, reflexes are quicker and so the shot seems easier, but further back on court one obviously has to wait for the ball and this is where my problem comes in. Please help. I play club tennis only. Thanks, Lyn.
