How To Build Confidence – 3 Video Tips

My tennis colleague and good friend Jeff Greenwald graciously spent time with me recently in a rather lengthy on-court video session.

What’s coming out of that video session is pretty darn extraordinary.

To start, Jeff and I have 3 complimentary video tips for you that promise to help you build confidence when closing out a match, between points, and when you have the tough earned break point and are just about to receive serve.

The video session I did with Jeff produced a TON more content than just 3 tips, but more on that later.

For now, get signed up for these 3 comp video tips now because they will only be available for several more days.

Tennis Fitness Plan – Start With Recovery

I got former top 100 ranked tour player Jeff Salzenstein on the phone last week to discuss the incredible level of fitness displayed by Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic during their singles final at the 2012 Australian Open.

Nearly 6 hours of an incredibly high level of tennis. Looked really painful ...

In addition to asking Jeff about their training program, the most important question I wanted to ask Jeff was about what the rest of us could use as a 'takeaway'.

I was surprised with Jeff's response which zeroed in on basing our fitness programs on the art of recovery.

What’s The Right Shot? Anticipate The Open Space

We all saw that point during the recent 2012 Australian Open where Nicolas Almagro drills Tomas Berdych with a short point blank forehand.

Berdych plays an approach shot and then a drop volley off of Almagro's passing shot attempt.

It sits up, Almagro gets to it and nails Berdych in the arm.

Was Almagro trying to opportunistically "head hunt"?

I don't think so.  Here's why ...

1st Volley Strategy – What’s The Longest Distance You Can Force Your Opponent To Run?

You know me, I love serve and volley tennis.

I simply think it's way more fun than sitting back behind the baseline and grinding.

However, not all 1st volleys are created equal.

Especially when you have to receive a low return of serve, you can't always just shove a deep volley deep to the open court.

Here's another thing to think about when you play that 1st volley.

[ My apologies about the Comments having a glitch in this post.  I never could figure it out.  Guess this internet thing ain't an exact science quite yet ;-) ]

Tennis Volley Lesson – Your 1st Volley Doesn’t Have To Be A Winner

I sense a bit of panic out there when you approach the net.

So much so that it sure looks like you're hoping you can end this point right now with your 1st volley.

That's rarely going to happen.

What's more likely going to happen is that you'll make your 1st volley and your opponent shanks their pass, makes their pass, or you're going to have to play 2nd volley.

Playing a 2nd volley is usually where you get an opportunity to end the point.

This video is going to show you how a specific type of 1st volley can really set you up for a 2nd volley easy put away ...

Australian Open Tennis 2012 – Bernard Tomic

The Australian Open tennis tournament for 2012 has just started, and one of the most compelling 1st round matches was between Bernard Tomic & Fernando Verdasco.

Tomic, down 2 sets to love, found a way in the brutal heat to hang in there and eventually come back to win the match in the 5th set.

I've taken a clip from the 2012 Australian Open tennis YouTube channel, specifically match point where Tomic plays a forehand groundstroke winner to close out the victory.

One of the things that Tomic does on this forehand groundstroke is to use a footwork pattern that allows him to approach the net IF he decides to after playing the shot.

Mansour Bahrami – Not Your Everyday Strategy

Hey, we gotta have some fun out there, right?

I mean, this tennis thing can't always be a serious activity.

You may have heard of Mansour Bahrami.  This guy played on the men's pro tour and was good enough to get to the French Open Men's Doubles final in 1989.

3 minutes of fun ...

Tennis Return of Serve – Unintended Opportunities

This happens all of the time in singles.

You're returning serve, the server has hit a good solid serve, you're just trying to get it back safely in play, and you end up hitting a tough return to one of the server's corners.

Totally unintended ...

That server is now scrambling just to get to your unintended great return back in play and you're backing up.

The Key To Generating Power On Your Overhead

Generating natural power on the overhead as you're moving backwards to cover your opponent's lob can be a real challenge.

Too often we lock up the wrist which also locks up the forearm roll (pronation) and we end up pushing our overhead.

Pushing results in zero power.
