How To Turn Your One-Handed Backhand Topspin Groundstroke Into A Lean & Mean Stroke Repeating Machine
Discover The 7 Vital Stroke Fundamentals So That You’ll Never Have To Worry Again About Your Opponents Thinking They Can Abuse Your Backhand! Taught by Brent Abel – WebTennis You know what? Your backhand can look like mine.
Inconsistent… If you’re inconsistent with your shot making, especially your one-handed backhand, you know as well as I do what havoc that can wreak on your game. Not only do you give away free points by simply not getting the ball back into play, but your confidence takes a major nose dive, and the rest of your game can quickly unravel. Does This Ever Happen To You… You’re only a game or two into a match with a brand new opponent, and you’re just praying this new opponent doesn’t play too many shots to your backhand. Why? Because after you make a couple of unforced errors with your backhand, you just know your opponent is going to do everything he can to get every one of his shots over to your backhand. So to hide the inconsistency in your backhand you start to run around it to hit more forehands. But that doesn’t work because now you’ve opened up a huge hole on your side of the court and your opponent is just driving balls into that wide open space. So now you try taking your backhands up the line in hopes that your opponent will play more cross court shots to your forehand, but you just can’t control hitting your backhand into that little target area up the line and the unforced errors just start piling up. You’re ticked off and the rest of your game is starting to now fall apart. Every time you get a forehand you think you need to go for a winner, because if you don’t, you know your opponent is simply going to lay another shot into your backhand. And your attempts at winners are not going in the court, and again, the unforced errors are all over the place. Then to add insult to injury, your opponent starts to play all of their approach shots to your backhand side only to have you miss passing shot after passing shot. Depression sets in, the after match beer tastes lousy, and … You know how this story goes, it’s not a pretty picture. Now, Just Imagine This… Your opponent has just played a nasty deep underspin approach shot to your backhand side and they are moving in towards a good net position to put pressure on you to come up with a great shot… You calmly switch your grip to a nice clean eastern backhand grip that sets your racket in the perfect angle to impart enough topspin to help your shot have a little “dip” as it crosses the net, but not so much that it takes away from your power. You step forward to meet the ball early so your opponent has less time to close the net and to give you a bigger open space target. You wait for just the right moment, you don’t rush, and then you release your swing that feels effortless as you keep your eyes down at your point of contact until you feel the swing finish. As the ball leaves your racket, you “feel” the exact direction and speed of your shot without the need to actually “peek” at it, and you then look up to see your shot going past your opponent as they lunge off balance. You can make this happen…
